Downieville Mountain Biking Adventure

Tamarack Connector Trail

"Little Big Man" is the fictional story of an old west character small in stature but with a big heart and much courage. I think that's a fitting simile for the Tamarack Connector Trail. It is, arguably, the D-Ville area's biggest little trail. It starts at the base of the Sierra Buttes, in country chiseled from granite rock. Tiny lakes are tucked away in elfin valleys. They lie in the shadow of alpine crags still snow-covered in July. The land is a lush, emerald green, plentiful in forests and meadows. The four-mile trail is filled with more eye-popping scenery than a full color glossy travel "mag".

Oh, then there's the ride.

Smooth on the upside, the downhill portion slaps you around a little as you boulder-boogie down the mountain. It's just a hint of what you have to look forward to in Downieville. Get used to it.
